Diva Challenge #100

A quick post today as I am running late with the Christmas preparations.

When I tried this one I only had a blue pen to hand, so here it is in blue

and converted to black.

Diva Challenge #98

The challenge this week from Laura at I am the Diva  was to use the Tangle, Keenees, this is a tangle that I have used quite a lot so I decided to try and use it in a different way this week.

I have watched a few of Vihart's videos on Youtube and they are great see here for an example of what gave me inspiration for my first tangle. Another of her videos triangle party is well worth a watch also.

Keenees and Mooka

For the second attempt I just had some fun and did a ZIA monotangle. The beaks are orange but my scanner has made them look red.

Keenees
Enjoy!

Thanks for your visit and comments, I love to hear what you think.

Diva Challenge #97

The challenge this week from Laura at I am the Diva was to do a tangle with "No Strings Attached".

We were to create a tile, zendala, or ZIA without using a string.
I had a lot of fun with this one and took 3 different approaches.

We have recently been catching up with the first four series of  "The Big Bang Theory", a program which makes me laugh out loud.  So my first Zia was based on the "Big Bang!"

The second idea I was inspired by a tile from last week's challenge, Sorry I can not remember who's tile this was. It was to use Hollibaugh and tangle the spaces (I hope that doesn't count as a string)

For the third ZIA I decided to take a random approach.

Using the Tangle Patterns website I asked one of my family to randomly choose a letter, then depending on how many tangles started with that letter I got them to choose a random number, this gave me my first pattern. I just kept going like this until I had filled up the whole page.

This is fun as it takes the control away from you and I used some patterns that before I had skipped past without even considering. You also have to find a way to make these random patterns work together.

Tuftid, Moving Day, Basketweave, Me-three, Scrumble, XYP, Emingle, Diagonals,
Yang, Pane, Kinetic, Cracked,Cirquital, Cross Stitch

Diva Challenge #96

The challenge this week from Laura at I am the Diva was to use the Tangle Zinger which has recently been named by Rick and Maria.

I have not tried this one before and I like it, I used it like a plant in this tile which has quite an organic feel to it.

Diva Challenge #95

The challenge this week from Laura at I am the Diva is to use Mickey Mouse as your inspiration.

I live in Scotland but have been to Orlando for many holidays and always had a fantastic time at Disney, there's nowhere else quite like it.

I decided to go with the obvious inspration, the mouse himself. I started with the ears and went from there. Ttangles I used were: Cadent, Beadlines, Betweed, Shattuck, I can't remember what the one for the nose was!

I followed up with a plain old M which I tangled in.

Tangles used are Shattuck, Tripoli, Groovy, Cracked, Crescent Moon,Keenees Arrowheads, BlackEyed Peas, Ambler, Strircles

Diva Challenge #94

This week's challenge from Laura at I am the Diva was to use the tangle SOCC created by Erin.

This was a new tangle to me and I really enjoyed using it, the first one is a monotangle, I did this just to get a feel for it and how it worked and then I was a bit more adventurous for my next tile.

Zendala Dare #30

It's been a few weeks since I have managed to do one of Erin's dares. Here's a link to this weeks challenge  http://thebrightowl.blogspot.co.uk/.

As well as the Zendala template, the dare this week was only to use tangles starting with the letters
P I E and to use a tangle you had not used before.

I went for new tangles Eye-wa, Eddy, Intersection and an old favourite Paradox.

I am not sure about this as it doesn't flow that well for me. I found it quite tricky using only these tangles, but a great challenge and one which pushed me out of my comfort zone of using the same tangles again and again.

Diva Challenge #93

Tha challenge from Laura this week was to use the new official tangle Bunzo. See the challenge here.

When I first saw this tangle I was struggling for inspiration, so I decided that I would just start and see where it took me.

I started drawing and after a while I saw hair, don't ask me why...!!  I like how it turned out though.

I then thought I will do another go and make this a more traditional tile, however it turned out to be another Zia, this time a tree!

Diva Challenge #92

It's been a very busy week so I have been struggling for time to do this week's challenge from Laura. see it here. The challenge was to use stripes.

I kept this very simple and went for a diagonal stripe and used it as a sort of sampler to show many different tangles.

Groovy, Hybrid, Twisted Rope, Reticulated, Scrawlz, Meer,
D-vine, Coil, Fohbraid, Golven, Black Eyed Peas, Pearlz

Diva Challenge #91

The challenge this week from Laura at I am the Diva was to tangle using the theme beads. Laura is raising the profile of a charity called Beads of Courage. They help chronically ill children to tell their story of courage and strength as they take their medical journey by using beads to represent each medical procedure they have had.

Here is my attempt, I was not sure where to start with this one and I ended up with a tile with lots of white space. Not quite sure what I was trying to do!

Diva Challenge #90

This week's challenge from Laura at I am the Diva was to use String #1 which can be found at www.tanglepatterns.com.

I have not used a string for a while so this was fun.

Diva Challenge #89

The challenge this week from Laura at I am the Diva was to use the tangle Sankegg. This was one that I had not tried before, and like a lot of other people this week I found it quite tricky. I did not find that this tangle flowed very easily and it was a struggle to get the shapes looking symmetrical. I tried a couple of Tangleations. I like the one on the RHS however the one in the top left I think has come out too busy. I wish I had not filled in the shapes with the swirls.

A good challenge to get me out of my comfort zone, however I do not this that this tangle will go to the top of my favourite list.

Sankegg, Heartvine

Zendala Dare #25

I can't believe that we are on Dare #25 already. I feel that I only took up Zentangle a short while ago, how time flies when you are having fun doodling!

You can see this weeks challenge from Erin here.

I was doing this challenge last night while listening to the Ryder Cup on the radio. Looking forward to two years time when it comes over here to Scotland.

Golven, Betweed, Onamato, Drip Drop

Celtic Knot Challenge 7

When I first saw this template for the Celtic Knot Challenge by Judy here I thought of fire and crowns (Dont ask me why) so I went for an orange/yellow fire theme and them regal purple for the crown bit.

I don't really like the finished tile, it just foesn't feel right to me. However I am posting it anyway as there are no mustakes in Zentangle!!

So after that attempt I thought I would go black and white and simple for the second attempt, I much prefer this one.

Diva Challenge #88 IX

The challenge this week from Laura at I am the Diva was to use the new official tangle IX.

I decided to make mine (almost) a monotangle. The only tricky bit was knowing where to stop with the auras so it didn't look too overdone. I added some Fescu type curls and some Crescent Moon on at the end to make it look less lonely on the page.

Zendala Dare #24

This weeks dare from Erin at The Bright Owl can be seen here.

I started more softly this week. It was an interesting pattern that we had to work from , a little different which gave me a good challenge.

Bitten, Cvetic, Girlande, D-Vine, Cruffle, Betweed

For my second attempt the snakes came back out. They have been inhiding for a while, so I did this one all with BTL Joos, using a bit of celtic knot under and over around the edge. I find this pattern so soothing.

Zendala Dare #23

The dare this week from Erin at The Bright Owl can be found here.

A different shape this week to give us a new challenge. My first attempt was very monochromatic. Also strangely enough I seem to have used 3 tangles whose names started with a B...how bizarre, I didn'tplan it that way, and good old Prestwood snuck in at the end.

Bluebonnets, BB, Betweed, Bulb Lantern and Prestwood.

I decided to try and make my second attempt softer so went for more organic, leafy tangles and used a few ones that I have discovered recently. You have to excuse the mistake I had with one of my Mookas, however I did not want to start all over again with the tile, so the messy bit had to stand.

Euca, D-vine, Mooka, Veridough, Furr-Balls

Diva Challenge #86

The challenge this week from Laura can be seen here.  We were asked to think 'ouside the box' or as this is Tangling, outside the string. The challenge is to break free of your border! To create a tile or ZIA where SOME element of your work goes beyond the border and stretches or expands out, free from constraints!!

I started off with Verdigogh which is a great tangle and I love drawing, then I added my Fescu feather and a few Mooka. I got stuck at this point as I had a lot of white space and wasn't sure how to fill it as the patterns are very light and I wasn't sure how to tangle around and make it look natural. I decided just to add some dangles and a Euca across the page and then use some colour to finish it off.

Zentangle Inspired Art Journal Prompt # 32 Tangled Miró

This challenge was so much fun.  I was not really that aware of  Miro's art work until I started looking at some of his pictures to help me out with this challenge. We had to try and tangle in a Miro style. You can see the challenge here.

I found a couple of pictures that I liked and used these to copy the basic shapes and then I tangled and coloured to my hearts content.

Here is Miro's attampt
Miro-Hommage a Picasso

Here is my Tangled version

Hommage a 'Hommage a Picasso'
And here is Miro's second painting

Miro - The Melancholic Singer

And my attempt

What a lot of fun I had with this challenge. It's great to try something new.

Celtic Knot Challenge #4

The Celtic Knot challenge this week can be found here and was to decorate a modern Celtic Cross.

I did this one without colour this week as I liked how it looked once it was drawn.

Zendala Dare #22 Monodala

The challenge this week as well as being a mandala was to complete it using only one tangle. See the challenge here.

I really enjoy monotangles and did one for last weeks Zendala dare and also last weeks Diva challenge. I find that it requires much less thinking and trying to work out which tangles go together. Once you start with a tangle there's no stopping until you are done.

I enjoyed this so much this week I did 3 different tiles.

I started with one of my favourite tangles, Auraknot. It was a bit tricky at first working out exactly how this would link together, but I love how it turned out.

I then had a go with Mooka, which just seemed to sit nicely in the teardrop shapes of the mandala.

My final attempt was to leave less white space and go for a more filled look. Hence the use of  Shattuck

A great challenge this week and I have to stop now or I will be up all night.

Thanks to everyone who left coments last week they are much appreciated.

Diva Challenge #85

This weeks challenge from Laura is to use the Tangle Copada, the challenge can be found here and the instructions for Copada here. This was a new Tangle that I had not seen before.

I created something which was a monotangle to start with, but then had too much white space in so I added a couple of other tangles, then I thought it looked to busy so I added a bit of colour!!  The colour has not shown up that well, my scanner did not make a good job of it. I guess I should have just stopped earlier.

A great tangle though which now I know about it I will use in the future, thanks for letting us see this one.

And happy Wedding Anniversary to Laura, ours is coming up at the end of this week too, 23 years..how the time has flown.

Zendala Dare #21 and Celtic Knot challenge #3

I am posting my tangles for two challenges together this week.

First the Zendala Dare #21 from Erin at The Bright Owl. I really enjoyed the shape of this weeks challenge. It allowed me to use some different Tangles from those I have done recently.

A fairly new Tangle is Cruffle which I liked the look of so I did the dare using this as a monotangle. The only difficulty I had was knowing how to shade it. I quite like how it turned out.

I had another go at this challenge, this time using Ennies and Cirquital.

After finishing my tiles I always have a look at other peoples art and there are so many fabulous examples. I think that I need to work on getting outside the lines a bit more rather than being so structured. Perhaps next week I can try a structured one and an unstructured one.

My third tile was Judy's Celtic Knot challenge #3 which can be found here

I decided to Tangle my initials and I used a bit of colour also to make it stand out. Celtic Knots are so much fun and so easy to do once you have been shown how.

Diva Challenge #84

This week Laura has challenged us to use a 'blind string', shut your eyes and draw your string. I have not tried this before so I had a couple of attempts. See challenge HERE

For the first attempt my string was simple
I started with Llilly as this had just popped up as a new Tangle Pattern. I did the rest of the tile around that.

For my second attempt the string was more complicated

I thought I would give Auranot a shot. I made a couple of mistakes because it was an unusual shape, but I like the finished product.

Thanks to all my visitors and your kind comments it is much appreciated.

Zendala Dare #20

I can't believe that we are on Dare #20 already.  You can find the details HERE.

I struggled again this week, my first two attempts were aborted as they were just way too busy. Here is my third attempt, which believe it or not is the least busy but I am still not too sure about it. It's quite funky though with the dots and the fern like tangle (Can't remember the name of this one)

I always try and do my own tile before I look at any others, that way I am not influenced by what everyone else has done. I think that now I have looked at some other tiles that I should have made more use of white space and not tried to fill in every part with tangles. There are some really gorgeous tiles, I am always amazed at how different everyones work turns out.

I have now had another go at this after being inspired by others attempts. This time I tangled in the shapes but did not use the outline and I forced myself to be a lot less structured. I like how this one turned out, so very different from my first attempt  :-)

Celtic Knot Challenge #2

Another challenge this week from Judy on Celtic Knots. See HERE for a link to the challenge.

I chose to draw the knot myself from scratch so it is (k)not as even as it could be. I decided to add some colour to it as it was looking a bit busy and messy without the colour. I enjoyed the challenge and I like using a bit of colour for a change.

Celtic Knot Challenge

While blog surfing this week I spotted that Judy has a new challenge for us to try out Freestyle Celtic knots. See here for a link to the challenge.

I had not tried out this method before and it is really easy, thanks for showing us how. I think I will be using this one again.

Here's my attempts

And one with a bit of colour for a change.
